Agricultural Protection

The Society of American Florists has long opposed any changes to U.S. import laws or regulations that would put the floral and nursery industry or any other segments of U.S. agriculture at risk of new pest or disease infestations.  In view of the trend toward a global marketplace, it is particularly important that the U.S. floral industry be safeguarded from exotic pests and diseases and that U.S. phytosanitary laws be rigorously enforced while continuing to allow importation of new crop germplasm.

SAF supports the goal of reducing barriers to trade in accordance with United States treaty and trade agreements insofar as these barriers are not required to protect the U.S. domestic floral industry from unwanted, imported pests and disease.
