City Council Votes to Block 'Supercenters' |

The San Diego City Council voted Nov. 27 to ban certain giant retail stores. The 5-3 vote prohibits "stores of more than 90,000 square feet that use 10 percent of space to sell groceries and other merchandise that is not subject to sales tax." The council's decision was seen as at least a temporary blow to Wal-Mart Inc., which had plans to expand in the city, according to The New York Times. Login to read more... |
