The Society of American Florists supports efforts to bring labor laws into step with the realities of current day marketplace conditions. SAF also supports measures to increase opportunities for employees and employers alike. One way to do this is through progressive changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that benefit both the employee and the employer. These changes could include, among other things, allowing employers to offer compensatory time instead of pay for working overtime, and a comprehensive review of the distinction between “inside” and “outside” sales people and between independent contractors and employees.
Evaluating and analyzing the Fair Labor Standards Act is an important part of an ongoing effort to ensure that laws affecting the relationship between employees and employers, particularly those laws that affect small businesses, are up-to-date, effective and provide for mutually beneficial working environment.
